Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Klamath Falls: July 17, 2011: A six game road trip that started with a pair of wins turned sideways as Cowlitz went into a three game slide entering tonight's game. The team sent Grahamm Wiest (Cal St. Fullerton) to the mound to stop the tailspin. Wiest continued a string of rocky starts by Black Bear starters, lasting 4.2 innings before giving way to Andrew Lines (UC Irvine).

Lines shut down the Gems, who scored in the first three innings to take a 4-1 lead. That would be the last time they scored, as Lines went the rest of the way while recording seven strikeouts and only allowing one hit and a walk.

The offensive spark came from an unlikely source - Trent Zaks (UC Irvine). Zaks hit a two-run home run to give the Black Bears their fist lead of the game at 5-4. Spencer O'Neil (University of Oregon) had an RBI single that scored Kyle Garlick (University of Oregon) in the 7th inning for an insurance run and the final score of the game.

The next game is on Azteca $2 Tuesday and the start of three games against the Kitsap Blue Jackets. It'll be Kelso Schools Spirit Night as well. That will be followed by Burgerville Family Night on Wednesday and Estetica Day Spa Ladies Night on Thirsty Thursday.
