Black Bears Walk Off With Win in 12th
July 29, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview-Kelso: July 28, 2011: *Offense was not hard to come by, as Spencer O'Neil started a four-for-five night by taking the first pitch he saw in the first inning over the right field fence for a two-run home run. That brought Cowlitz within one, as Bellingham scored three in its half of the first inning.
The Black Bears would not score again until the seventh when they were down 5-2. The first five Black Bears reached base on a walk and four consecutive hits, tying the game at five. The teams traded scoreless frames until the bottom of the 12th, when Beau Didier (LSU) reached base on a walk, took second on a wild pitch, and came around to score on a game-winning, pinch-hit RBI double by Kevin Schwartz (Pacific University).
Ryan Yuengel (University of Missouri) started his first game of the summer, as he had been used as a relief pitcher for most of the summer. His offense erased his rocky start, and his fellow bullpen mates Andy Lines (UC Irvine) and Ian Ekery (University of Missouri) combined to throw 7.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Tomorrow is the season series finale versus Bellingham as the Bears look for their fourth win in a row and the home sweep on Las Rocas Fabulous Friday. The first 200 women through the gates will receive a shovel to use in the *Gallery of Diamonds Diamond Dig*, when they scour the warning track between the third base dugout and the Bob's Sporting Goods Party Deck looking for one of three buried diamond rings after the game.
