Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Longview-Kelso, Washington, Tuesday, February 14, 2012: The Cowlitz Black Bears have signed four more players for the 2012 season; Andy Peterson (Santa Ana College), Kyle Kuck (Santa Ana College), Peter Summerville (Santa Clara), and Brian Frattali (University of Portland). All four players are sophomores.

Andy Peterson is a slick-fielding shortstop, who was named First Team All-Orange Empire Conference for Santa Anna in 2011, while hitting .368. A 2010 graduate of Kennedy High School (CA), Andy was a three-year letter-winner in baseball and a four-year letter-winner in football. "Andy is a hardnosed athlete with excellent instincts and plus speed," said Black Bears' general manager Grant Wilson. "Our fans are really going to love him".

Kyle Kuck is a first baseman at Santa Ana, who graduated from Corona High School (CA) in 2010, where he was a two-year letter-winner in baseball and named First-Team All-League his senior year. "Kyle's a Gold Glove-type first baseman with plenty of pop from the left side," said Black Bears' coach Tim Matz.

Santa Clara's Peter Summerville is a 6'1 205 pound catcher from Seattle, where he was a four-year letterman at Garfield High School. "We are excited to have Peter with us. He's a solid catch and throw guy who can handle a pitching staff," said Matz.

Brian Frattali is a right-handed hitting first baseman at the University of Portland, with raw power potential. During his prep career at Mater Dei High (CA) he earned all-state honors as a senior and was a two-time all-Trinity League pick.
