Black Bears Sign Four Standout Outfielders

Longview-Kelso, Washington, Tuesday, January 31, 2012: The Cowlitz Black Bears announced the signing of four major impact players for the upcoming 2012 season, all outfielders. Matt Ozanne, a junior from Santa Clara University, Austin Diemer, a freshman from Cal State Fullerton, Brian Poupore, a freshman from Kansas, and Brian Carroll, a sophomore from UCLA.

After a phenomenal high school career at Notre Dame Prep in Scottsdale Arizona (one of the nation's best programs), Ozanne was drafted in the 2009 MLB First-Year Players Draft in the 46th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. A six-footer, Ozanne opted to continue his education and baseball career for Santa Clara University. Ozanne was a 2011 All-WCC honorable mention and All-WCC Freshman Team.

"We're really excited to have Matt Ozanne on the Black Bears' roster," said Black Bears General Manager Grant Wilson. "Everything we've heard and every report we've gotten leads us to believe he will be a standout player this summer in the West Coast League."

Diemer, a Rocklin HS (CA) product, set a career and single season record for triples, and a single season school record in stolen bases. He was drafted in the 26th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Players Draft by the Cleveland Indians.

Poupore also played high school ball at Notre Dame Prep in Scottsdale. He finished a two-year varsity career hitting .403, while being name All-State and All-Region honorable mention. Poupore is the great grandson of the legendary Connie Mack.

Carroll played in 15 games for UCLA in 2011, hitting .167 (3 for 18). Last summer he was a member of the Wisconsin Woodchucks in the Northwoods League, batting .207, 11 RBI's and 22 Runs.

The nine-team, professional style wood-bat league features pro prospects from major conferences across the country.
