Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Bellingham: June 20, 2011: For the second consecutive night the Cowlitz Black Bears have come up on the short side of an extra-inning contest. Missing from this game was the offense of last night's 6-5 defeat at the hands of Kelowna.
Both starting pitchers performed to near perfection. Bellingham Bells starter Adrian Sampson did his namesake proud, taking a no-hitter into the 9 th inning before Brett Thomas (University of Oregon) swatted the team's first hit of the night with one out. For the Black Bears, starter Grahamm Wiest (Cal St. Fullerton) only faced one batter over the minimum in his seven innings of work.
Villarreal's exit provided the opening Bellingham needed. Christian Bannister (Mt. Hood CC) got two outs in the 13th but left with the bases loaded. Andrew Brooks (Concordia) came on for the last out, but hit the first batter he faced with the first pitch to end the game in improbable fashion.
The next contest at Story Field is on Thursday, June 23rd when the Kelowna Falcons return the Bears' previous visit. Remember, it will be Thirsty Thursday, where beer will be just $2. Also happening will be Longview Fibre Ball Night - the first 400 kids 14 and younger will receive a logo baseball. Continuing the special promotions, all those with a college ID or wearing a college t-shirt or sweatshirt will get a $2 discount on general admission tickets.
