Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Longview-Kelso, Washington, Tuesday, May 22, 2012: The Cowlitz Black Bears have signed pitchers Taylor Williams, Brandon Boyle, Leko Galusha, and Mikey Murray, along with catcher Konnor Armijo for the upcoming 2012 West Coast League season.

Taylor Williams, 5-11, 185 lbs., is from Mt Hood CC (Oregon). Black Bears coach Tim Matz first noticed Taylor at the Northwest Showcase. "He's a two way guy that plays infield when he's not on the mound. I had him on the gun at 92-95 mph," said Matz. "He's very athletic and he had my highest ranking at the showcase." Williams was 5-0 this season at Mt Hood CC with a 1.23 ERA in 51.1 innings.

Two local Lower Columbia College pitchers are in the group. Brandon Boyle was the ace of LCC's staff going 8-1 with a 0.67 ERA and 5 complete games in 9 starts. Leko Galusha had a 5-2 record with a 1.86 ERA in 43.2 innings pitched. "We are looking forward to having both Brandon and Leko pitch for the Black Bears. They are local players with exceptional talent, and I'm really excited to see how they perform in the West Coast League this summer." said Black Bears general manager Grant Wilson.

Mikey Murray, a junior lefty from Hawaii Pacific University, was the best pitcher on their staff this spring and led his team in almost every category. Konnor Armijo, was the everyday catcher for Coach Matz at Santa Ana JC (CA) this season and is drawing the attention of several division 1 schools.
