Bitzan earns Blizzard Player of the Week honors

(Alexandria, MN) The Minnesota Blizzard Junior "A" Hockey organization is happy to announce that Shawn Bitzan of Alexandria, MN has been selected as the team's "Player of the Week" for the period ending October 23.
According to the Minnesota Blizzard Coaching staff, Shawn was one of the team's unsung heroes, during the four games Minnesota played at the annual North American Hockey League Showcase in Blaine, MN. The staff praised Shawn, for his hard work and tenacity, in helping to set up numerous scoring chances by line mates Ryan Hawkins and Jake Nelson. In addition to creating the scoring chances for his teammates, Shawn also scored a goal and two assists, as the Blizzard won three of four games in the NAHL Showcase, earning seven of a possible eight points in the process.
Shawn is in his first full season, as a member of the Minnesota Blizzard. He saw limited playing time last season for the Blizzard. Last winter, Shawn was a member of the Alexandria Cardinals' hockey squad, which tied for the Central Lakes Conference Championship with St. Cloud Tech High School. In his High School hockey career, Shawn earned All-CLC honors, in the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. One of the highlights of his High School career was scoring the game-winning goal versus Tech, in the 2003 playoffs. He was named to the Central Lakes Conference Honor Roll, as well as earning academic honors at Jefferson High School. He was also selected to the National Honor Society.
At 5'10" and 180 pounds, Shawn is the son of Kim Byrne and Dennis Bitzan, and has four sisters. He enjoys fishing and hunting, along with competitive sports. Shawn's favorite food is the hamburger, and his favorite film is "The Bourne Identity".
