 Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Today, the Bisons face the Richmond Braves with a 2:05 p.m. start from Dunn Tire Park. Both teams will be looking for the edge in their four-game series after splitting a doubleheader yesterday. Richmond scored three runs in the 7th to take game one 5-4, while Andy Abad's pinch-hit RBI-single in the 8th inning propelled Buffalo to their own 5-4 win. In game three of the series today, the Bisons will give the ball to their 2004 Pitcher of the Year, RHP Kyle Denney. He will be opposed by RHP Seth Greisinger (5-5, 4.96ERA in 2004 with Rochester).
LATE-INNING ACTION: The Bisons aren't strangers to games ending in the final inning. In 2004, the Herd won 18 games (18-13 overall) in their last at-bat during the regular season and another two during the 2004 playoffs. Buffalo as played in 14 extra-inning games last season, finishing with an 8-6 record.
GOING DEEP: The Bisons scored seven of their nine runs yesterday via the long ball. Ernie Young hit a solo home run and a two-run shot in the first game of the doubleheader. Jake Gautreau and Jeff Liefer each hit two-run homers in the second game of the night. Last season, the Bisons finished second in the IL with 188 home runs.
IN THE CLUTCH: Andy Abad came up huge for the Bisons last night with the game-winning pinch-hit RBI-single in the bottom of the 8th inning. Last season, the Bisons pinch hitters went just 3-20 (.150) with a pair of doubles and two RBI.
BIG ERN: Ernie Young got the season off right with a pair of homer in the first game of yesterday's doubleheader. Last season, Young led the team with 27 homers, but didn't have a two-homer game. He did go deep in three consecutive games, June 16-18, 2004.
