Montgomery Biscuits News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Biscuits (7-8) won their third-straight game for the first time this season with a solid 6-4 victory over the Birmingham Barons (10-6) on Friday night at Regions Field.

The Biscuits came out hitting in the first inning for the third-consecutive night as Dillon Paulson open the scoring for the third-straight night with an RBI-single off Barons starter John Parke (0-1). Ford Proctor added a sac fly in the next at-bat, before Moises Gomez capped a three-run first with an RBI-single of his own to make it 3-0 Biscuits.

Caleb Sampen made his third Double-A start, and after breezing through a 1-2-3 first inning, the righty ran into trouble in the second. First he served up a solo home run to Micker Adolfo to make it 3-1, and then later in the inning the Brownsburg, Indiana native allowed a two-run shot to JJ Muno, which knotted things up at three.

The Biscuits would retake the lead in the third, however, thanks to a two-out RBI-single by Jim Haley and an Ian Dawkins throwing error from center field to make it 5-3. The Barons would pull one back in the fourth on an error by the first baseman Paulson, but Brian Shaffer (3-0) then came on for Sampen and was able to wiggle out of a two-on-and-nobody-out jam with the 5-4 lead intact. Shaffer is now tied for the league lead in wins.

Garrett Whitley clobbered his third home run of the season in the sixth, a solo shot into the Barons bullpen in right-center field to extend the Biscuit lead to 6-4. Shaffer and Jordan Brink were impressive in relief, with the latter striking out the side-all swinging-in the seventh. Brink also worked a scoreless eighth, and Ivan Pelaez a scoreless ninth, to notch his fourth save.

The Biscuits will try to make it four-straight victories against the Barons on Saturday, May 21 when RHP Shane Baz (0-2) takes on RHP Blake Battenfield (2-0) at 6:30 PM CT.

The Biscuits will be back at Riverwalk Stadium to open up a 12-game home stand on June 1 beginning with a six-game series against the Biloxi Shuckers on a Golden Biscuits Tuesday. The rest of the series against the Shuckers includes a Military Wednesday presented by WOW! on Wednesday, June 2; A Hey Butter Butter T-Shirt Giveaway presented by Whataburger on Thursday June 3; A Chicken & Baker Bobblehead Giveaway presented by Capital Trailways on Friday June 4; 90s Night with MAX Fireworks on Saturday June 5; and a Rays Day Poster.
