Montgomery Biscuits News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Biscuits (6-8) followed up their 16-4 win on Wednesday night with a 5-2 victory over the Birmingham Barons (10-5) on Thursday night at Regions Field.
Faustino Carrera was on the mound making his first start for the Biscuits, and the left-hander got some offensive assistance in the top of the first from Miles Mastrobuoni, who led off the game with a single against Barons southpaw Konnor Pilkington. Mastrobuoni is now on an 11-game hitting streak and a 14-game on-base streak to begin 2021.
Jake Palomaki then singled, but was thrown out trying to take second base after a throw to third. Dillon Paulson then came through for the second-straight night with another RBI-single in the first inning to put the Biscuits ahead 1-0.
JJ Muno would tie the game with an RBI-single of his own in the bottom of the second, but Paulson was at it again in the top of the third with his second RBI-single of the night to hand the one-run lead back to the Biscuits at 2-1. Carrera allowed six hits and just the one run to go along with five strikeouts and no walks over five innings of work.
Dalton Moats (1-0) came on for Carrera in the bottom of the sixth, but his first pitch to Carlos Perez was cranked over the left field wall for a solo homer that tied the game at two. But in the seventh, the Biscuits got an RBI-fielder's choice from Rene Pinto to break the 2-2 tie, and then an RBI-single from Seaver Whalen to increase that lead to 4-2. Paulson added his third RBI on a sac fly in the eighth to make it a 5-2 ballgame.
Jack Labosky pitched well in relief in the eighth and ninth, and Ivan Pelaez came on to notch his third save of the year, getting Zack Granite to pop out to Whalen with runners at the corners for the game's final out.
The Biscuits will try to make it three-straight victories against the Barons on Friday, May 21 when RHP Caleb Sampen (0-1) takes on LHP John Parke (0-0) at 7:05 PM CT.
