Biloxi Shuckers News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - Down to their final two strikes in the ninth inning, Wes Clarke launched his first home run of the year to left to tie the game at four, but a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the inning gave the Montgomery Biscuits a 5-4 win over the Biloxi Shuckers at Riverwalk Stadium on Friday night. The home run capped off the second straight multi-hit night for Clarke.
For the third time in four games, the Biscuits scored in the first inning, this time doing so on three doubles from Ronny Simon, Mason Auer and Blake Hunt. Auer and Hunt's doubles drove in runs to give the Biscuits a 2-0 lead.
After the early runs, Montgomery starter Jacob Lopez was dominant in his fourth start of the year, holding the Shuckers scoreless over four innings of work while striking out 10. The Montgomery staff combined to strike out 19 Shuckers hitters and held Biloxi bats to 1-15 with a runner in scoring position.
In the fourth, Montgomery extended the lead to 3-0 when Ronny Simon drove in Alexander Ovalles. Another run in the fifth off an RBI single from Heriberto Hernandez gave the Biscuits a 4-0 lead.
With reliever T.J. Shook holding the Biscuits at bay, the Shuckers started on the comeback trail. A throwing error on a double from Wes Clarke scored Jeferson Quero to give the Shuckers their first run of the night. In the seventh, an RBI single from Noah Campbell made it 4-2 Montgomery.
Shook ended his night with a season-high four innings and seven strikeouts. In the ninth, the Shuckers tied it off when Clarke smashed a home run to left with a 2-1 count.
In the bottom of the inning, Alika Williams and Simon both singled off reliever Darrell Thompson. Then, a sacrifice bunt from Greg Jones pushed the runners to second and third before an intentional walk to Auer and a walk to Hunt gave the Biscuits a 5-4 win.
Thompson (1-1) took the loss for the Shuckers while Victor Muñoz (1-2) took the win for Montgomery.
The teams are set to meet at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday in Montgomery. Tobias Myers is scheduled to start for Biloxi.
