Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala., April 28, 2015 - The Montgomery Biscuits will host local area schools as part of their Grand Slam School Day promotion on Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, May 7.

Grand Slam School Days are devoted to teachers and students and provides not only a fun, but educational experience. The Biscuits worked with the Alabama State Board of Education to create an approved curriculum and provide to teachers to use in the classroom to compliment their field trip to Riverwalk Stadium. Many teachers use Grand Slam School Days as an end-of-the-year reward for their students.

Grand Slam School Days draw an average of 12,000 students to Riverwalk Stadium every season. Students come from over 35 counties, including Montgomery County, Elmore County, Autauga County, Dallas County, Covington County, Chilton County and Tallapoosa County.

"It is great to see the support of the principals, teachers and students in the River Region and even beyond," Biscuits General Manager, Scott Trible said. "The Biscuits have been trendsetters in linking learning and baseball into the Grand Slam School Day experience."

The Biscuits held their first Grand Slam School Day of the 2015 season last week on Tuesday, April 21. More than 5,000 kids were in attendance.

Part of the day's activities include a Junior Press Session presented by Auburn University Montgomery. Students learn what it is like to be a member of the media with a behind the scenes tour including the press box, their own press credentials and an opportunity to interview two Biscuits players during the junior press conference.

During the first Grand Slam School Day on April 21, 22 students participated in the Junior Press Program presented by AUM. These students were presented with their own custom media passes and press kits upon arrival. The participants interviewed Biscuits pitchers, Jared Mortensen and Colton Reavis, and were greeted by the Biscuits favorite Biscuit-Lovin' Beast, Big Mo. Following the press conference, the students got to tour the press box and control room and see how a baseball game is broadcasted and produced.

Participants of the Junior Press program are encouraged to write a game story and submit to the Biscuits. Submitted stories will be featured on the Biscuits website.

The Montgomery Biscuits host the Jackson Generals on April 29 and the Birmingham Barons on May 7. May 7 was originally scheduled as a 7:05 p.m. game but due to the April 13 Grand Slam School Day promotion being cancelled due to inclement weather the game time has been changed. Both games begin at 10:35 a.m.
