Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Despite a three-run seventh to knot the fourth game of their series with the Suns 5-5, the Barons came up one run shy Tuesday night in Jacksonville, Fla., falling 6-5. Birmingham scored in three consecutive innings and plated three runs in the seventh to twice tie the game, but Jacksonville had an answer each time.
Nolan Sanburn was given the spot-start in place of the injured Mike Recchia, tossing 1.2 innings. The right-hander gave up three runs on two hits, but got off the hook in the fourth when the Barons tied the game 3-3.
An RBI double from Danny Hayes got the Barons on the board in the second, and a Tim Anderson single in the third brought Birmingham within one run. Christian Marrero tied the game with a lead-off home run in the third. The round-tripper was his second home run of the season.
Going to the top of the seventh, the Suns had built their lead back to two runs. Birmingham responded with two runs to tie the contest 5-5 on three hits. With two out, Jeremy Farrell singled to left-center and Joey DeMichele singled through the hole at short to board two. Lemon fell in line with a triple to right to plate both Farrell and DeMichele.
The late inning rally came up just short, though, as Jacksonville was able to score a run in the eighth and retire the Barons in the ninth to claim the series in four games. Reliever Craig Stem earned the win and Sean Donatello was credited with his fifth save. Kyle Hansen received the loss for the Barons.
The final game of the series begins Wednesday at 11:05 p.m. with Tyler Danish (2-0, 3.38 ERA) set to start for the Barons. He will face right-hander Kendry Flores (1-2, 4.11 ERA) of the Suns. The game can be heard live on WERC 105.5 FM or at WERCFM.com.
The team returns to Birmingham April 30 to host the Tennessee Smokies for a five-game series. Home stand highlights include Thirsty Thursday, NASCAR Night featuring an appearance from Bobby Allison, a Babe Ruff gnome giveaway, kids t-shirt giveaway, an appearance by former Braves catcher Charlie O'Brien and Autism Friendly Day.
