Birmingham Barons News Release
Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons suffered their most lopsided defeat of the young season Thursday night, falling to the Biscuits in Montgomery by a score of 11-3 in front of fans at Riverwalk Stadium.
The Barons took an early 2-1 lead in the second on a two-run double by Marcus Semien. Semien would finish the night 2-for-4.
The lead would be short lived as a five-run Biscuits fifth gave them a 6-2 lead they would not relinquish. Starter Wes Whisler (0-1, 7.00) started the inning but was removed after walking two batters. Nick McCully relieved and promptly walked the bases loaded before surrendering a two-run single to Kevin Kiermaier. An RBI single by Mikie Mahtook and a two-run double by Cameron Seitzer plated the final three runs of the inning for the Biscuits. Seitzer would fininsh the night 4-for-4.
The Barons would put another run on the board in the sixth on an RBI single by Keenyn Walker, but would draw no closer as the Biscuits added two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run homer by Shawn O'Malley and three more in the eighth highlighted by a two-run single by Todd Glaesmann.
The win went to Biscuits reliever Andrew Bellatti (1-0, 8.71) as the Biscuits improved to 12-9. With the loss, the Barons fell to 12-9 and into a first-place tie with the Tennessee Smokies.
The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as LHP Spencer Arroyo (1-1, 3.72) takes the hill against RHP Matt Buschmann (2-1, 4.58). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
