Island Storm News Release

(Charlottetown, PE) After spending last year helping BG Aschersleben of Germany to their best finish in 6 years, Louis Birdsong Jr. is back in the fold with the Island STORM of the NBL Canada.

A 6'7" forward out of George Mason University, rejoins a STORM team which has gone to the NBL league finals the past two seasons. Birdsong was on the STORM team which lost to London Lightning in the league finals two years ago.

Birdsong, a power forward who plays tough defense, got better and better as the 2012-13 season wore on and eventually was pressed into more minutes as injuries took its toll on the STORM team. His best games came at the end of the season when he scored 14 points against Saint John on March 5th, 2013 and grabbed 10 rebounds against the London Lightning during a playoff game on March 14th, 2013. Birdsong averaged 5 points per game, 3 rebounds, and shot nearly 48% from the floor during his tenure with the STORM.

In Germany last season Birdsong scored over 17 points per game for BG Aschersleben. He also grabbed over 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting a terrific 60% from the floor.

STORM Head Coach Salerno says this about Bridsong, "Louis is a great signing for us this offseason. He played an integral role for us coming off the bench on our way to our first finals appearance, and we will look for him to play an even larger role this season. He brings some interior toughness that we lacked this past season, as well as a lock down defender who can guard 3-4 different positions. We are very happy to have Lou back!"

Island STORM season ticket holders from last year are reminded they can now renew their STORM season tickets for the coming season at the box office at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.

Season ticket holders from last year have until Monday September 15th to renew their season tickets. Starting on the 16th all fans will have an opportunity to purchase season tickets to October 3rd. Single game tickets for STORM basketball will go on sale Monday October 6th.

For details on STORM tickets and purchases visit the Eastlink Centre Box Office, open Monday to Friday from 11am to 5pm or phone the box office at 902-629-6625.
