SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Monday, May 18, 2015) - Scorpions forward Billy Forbes was named the North American Soccer League (NASL) Player of the Week for round seven of the Spring Season. Forbes led the Scorpions to the franchise's first-ever win in Edmonton with his first-ever two goal game as a professional.
"It was really awesome for me to have my first two goal game in my career, but most importantly we finally got a win in Edmonton," said Forbes. "I can't take all the credit as I think the team played well, we continued to believe in each other, and we executed the game plan."
Forbes scored his first goal of the match and the 2015 season when he beat the offside trap and chipped Edmonton goalkeeper Matt VanOekel in the 62nd minute. Forbes bagged his brace when he picked the pocket of Eddies defender Mallan Roberts in the 82nd minute and again beat VanOekel 1-on-1, this time slotting low and left for the eventual game-winning goal.
"We're proud of Billy for fighting through some early season adversity to get back to the form that made him one of the most dangerous players in the league last year," said Scorpions President and General Manager Howard Cornfield. "We all know the potential he has and if he continues to work hard, the sky is the limit for him."
This is the first time this season a Scorpions player has been named the NASL's player of the week and the second time in his career that Billy Forbes has received the honor (2014 Fall Season Week 2). Overall, it is the fourteenth time a Scorpions player has been named the league's player of the week and Forbes becomes only the second player in club history to win the award multiple times: Pablo Campos (5), Billy Forbes (2), Adrian Cann, Rafael Castillo, Walter Restrepo, Jonathan Greensfield, Blake Wagner, Javier Saavedra, and Hans Denisson.
