Biletnikoff Jr. back with Coyotes

(Fresno, CA) - The Central Valley Coyotes of the arenafootball2 league announced that Fred Biletnikoff Jr. will return as Head Coach for the upcoming 2006 season. Biletnikoff Jr. signed a one year contract with the league. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"He [Biletnikoff Jr.] is a significant element to our plan to build a winning team," said General Manager Anthony Martinez. "Coach Biletnikoff Jr. has an outstanding offensive mind and is dedicated to winning. One of our first goals this off-season was to let the fans and the community know that Coach Biletnikoff Jr. was here to stay."

The Central Valley Coyotes will begin their fifth season of play in the arenafootball2 league, the team is currently owned and operated by the Santa Rosa Rancheria Tachi-Yokut Tribe, Lemoore, CA. The Tachi-Yokut Tribe is the only Native American Tribe in the United States to own a professional football franchise.

"We are excited to have Coach Biletnikoff Jr. back with our franchise," said Tribal Secretary Kevin Thomas. "He has done a great job of turning this team around from a year ago. He is extremely dedicated to his work and the entire tribe is excited to have Coach Biletnikoff Jr. leading our team in 2006!"

Biletnikoff Jr. returns for his second season as head coach, in 2005 he posted an 8-8 record and guided one of the most explosive offenses in the af2. His offense amassed 4,695 yards and 116 touchdowns, while breaking 32 franchise records.

"I want to thank the Tachi-Yokut Tribe for having the confidence in me to lead this football team," said Biletnikoff Jr. "My family is truly grateful! The 2005 season really helped put this franchise on the map. Grabbing a win at Tulsa, and sweeping Bakersfield really let us know that we can compete with any team in this league."

Prior to joining the Coyotes Biletnikoff Jr. began his career in arenafootball2 with the Fresno Frenzy in 2002, where he served as an offensive assistant. Along with his duties as Coyotes Head Coach, Biletnikoff Jr. will also continue to serve as offensive coordinator for the Fresno City College Rams, where he has been since 2000. Since Biletnikoff Jr. has been at Fresno City College the Rams have posted a 46-9 record and have appeared in 4 Northern California Championship games.

Before joining the Rams staff at Fresno City College, Biletnikoff Jr. spent two seasons (‘91-‘92) at Alameda High School coaching wide receivers and defensive backs. In 1993 he joined the football staff at Chabot College. During his six years at Chabot his title ranged from running backs, wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator.
