Bighorns Coach, Trainer to Join D-League Staff in NBA Summer League

RENO, Nev. - Reno Bighorns Assistant Coach Jason Glover and Athletic Trainer Michael Douglas have been selected to join the coaching staff for the 2009 NBA Development League Select Team, which will participate in the 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports, the NBA D-League announced today.

Glover, who will be in his second season on the Reno bench in 2009-10, joins a D-League Select Team staff led by Head Coach Scott Roth of the Bakersfield Jam.

Douglas spent the 2008-09 season as the head athletic trainer for the Bighorns, coming to Reno after stints with the Houston Comets of the WNBA and the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBA D-League.

The 2009 D-League Select Team features players from seven different NBA D-League teams, including the league's reigning Rookie of the Year, Othyus Jeffers of Iowa.

The team will play a five-game schedule at the Cox Pavilion and Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada - Las Vegas. The squad begins play July 13 vs. Minnesota at Cox Pavilion.

The 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports is comprised of 21 NBA teams and the NBA D-League Select squad, and features rookies, second-year players and select free agents.

The Reno Bighorns will begin their second season in the NBA Development League in 2009-10. The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA's official minor league and featured 16 teams with direct affiliations to NBA teams during the 2008-09 season. This Fall, two new NBA D-League teams will begin play in Portland, Maine and Springfield, Mass.-the birthplace of basketball. Eighty-four former NBA Development League players were on 2008-09 NBA end-of-season rosters, amounting to almost 20 percent of NBA players, and the league continues to develop coaches, referees, and front office staff for the NBA and its teams. In fostering the league's connection to the community, its teams, players and staff promote health and wellness, support local needs and interests, and assist in educational development through NBA D-League Cares programs. The NBA D-League also advances the game of basketball as the research and development arm of the NBA.
