
Big fourth for Barons does in BayBears

Birmingham, Ala â The Barons used a five-run fourth inning to erase a 4-1 deficit to defeat the Mobile BayBears 6-5 in the opener of their four-game, home-and-home series Saturday night.
BayBears starter, Duncan McAdoo allowed the first six batters in the frame to reach base, with five crossing the plate. Jon Hamilton singled in the first run of the inning followed by a two-run double off the bat of Danny Shaffer. After McAdoo struck out Tommy Nicholson, Danny Sandoval doubled in two more to complete the scoring in the inning.
McAdoo (3-7) took the loss, as he did not get out of the fourth. He allowed six runs on nine hits while issuing two walks. Barons starter Byeong An did not fare much better. An lasted just two and one-third innings, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks.
The BayBears jumped out early in the game once again, scoring twice in the first. Bobby Scales drove a two-out triple to right-center field scoring Todd Donovan and Jon Knott in the first inning, giving the BayBears a 2-0 lead.
The Barons trimmed the lead to one in the bottom of the second but the inning could have been worse. Jon Hamilton came to the plate with the bases loaded, but hit into a double play, scoring one run.
Mobile came right back in the top of the third with two more runs. Knott singled home Freddy Guzman and Scales drove in his third run of the game with a single that brought home Rico Washington.
The BayBears got back to within one in the top of the eighth as Scales picked up his fourth RBI of the game with another run scoring single, plating Donovan.
The BayBears and Barons will play game two of their series Sunday night at 6:00. Mobile will send Chris Rojas (5-6; 4.64) to the mound to face Birmingham's Mitch Wylie (2-3; 4.81).
The BayBears and Barons will then head to Mobile to finish their series at Hank Aaron Stadium beginning Monday night.
