Big Farewell to Nick Fazekas

December 19, 2011 - NBA G League (G League)
Reno Bighorns News Release

RENO, NEV.- The Reno Bighorn's Wednesday, December 21st game will include a farewell to one of its favorite family members, Nick Fazekas. The game against the Idaho Stampede, the NBA Affiliate of the Portland Trailblazers, Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz, will honor him by closing out his career as a Reno Bighorn.

Fans can help see him off Wednesday by purchasing "$5 Fazekas Tickets" for any bowl seat at the Reno Events Center. Fazekas will be present at the game to sign autographs from 6 to 7 p.m.

"Nick has not only been a fan favorite, but he also always represented the team and our community with class and professionalism," said managing owner, Herb Santos, Jr. "We wish him the best as he enters a new chapter in his life."

A local star linked to his prominent career at the University of Nevada, Fazekas has excelled this season as the Bighorns starting center, averaging 18.5 points and 8.2 rebounds in six games. He constantly reminded fans of his college days, showing off his vast arsenal of efficient hook shots and floaters. He was shooting 58.5 percent from the field this season.

"I really enjoyed coaching Nick for a short period of time," said head coach Paul Mokeski. "He is a great person and one of the most gifted offensive big men I have coached. His basketball IQ is great and we will miss having him on our team. I wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors."

Last season's first overall pick in the NBA D-League Draft, Fazekas started the first 12 games of the 2010-2011 season, averaging 14.6 points and 7.5 rebounds. He left the team midway through the season due to injuries.

While Fazekas attended Nevada, he helped elevate the men's basketball team into the national spotlight. During his college career he led the Nevada Wolf Pack to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a run to the Sweet 16 as a freshman. He was named the Western Athletic Conference's Player of the Year for three straight seasons and ranks in Nevada's top 10 in just about every category. He is the school's all-time leading scorer, the all-time leader in blocked shots and holds the record for most points scored in a season.

Out of college, Fazekas was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round (34th overall) of the 2007 NBA Draft. In his NBA career, he played for the Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 4.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in 26 games.

The Bighorns will extend the "$5 Fazekas Tickets" for the game on Friday, December 23, also against the Stampede. To get your tickets call the Reno Bighorns front office at 775-284-2NBA.
