
Bernier and Grant win the TELUS player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, March 17, 2008 - Shawinigan Cataractes forward Patrick Bernier and Saint John Sea Dogs defenseman Alex Grant today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from March 10 to 16.
In only two games, Bernier registered two goals, four assists as well as five bodychecks. Moreover, the 20-year-old maintained a +5 rating. In his first game, Bernier collected four points in an 8-3 win over the Val-d'Or Foreurs. A few nights later, he recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over the Drummondville Voltigeurs. He was named the second star of both contests. The Cataractes will battle the Olympiques in the first round of the 2008 playoffs.
Mathieu Perreault of Acadie-Bathurst, Michael Dubuc of Rouyn-Noranda and Stefano Giliati of Lewiston were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Alex Grant. In three games, the Sea Dogs captain registered six assists and a +6 rating to help Saint John collect five points in the standings by defeating the Wildcats and the Mooseheads. The Sea Dogs will battle the PEI Rocket in the first round of the playoffs, the only team that actually managed to defeat them last week (overtime loss).
Nicolas Champion and Maxime Renaud of Acadie-Bathurst as well as Bobby Nadeau of Chicoutimi were also considered.
