Bellingham Bells News Release

BlThe Bells took an early lead in front of a raucous crowd of 2,669 on opening night at Joe Martin Field, but eventually fell to the Corvallis Knights by a score of 3-2. The Bells started promisingly on Tuesday night with 2 walks from Shane Hanon and Ben Welch. Three batters later Brock Anderson ripped a 2 run double to right center field to score Hanon and Welch and the Bells had an early 2-0 lead.

The Bells pitching staff was looking very strong tonight and simply ran into some tough luck. Brian Way started on the mound for the Bells and pitched a strong 4 innings while allowing 2 tough luck runs. Joey Matulovich came into the game in the 5th and supplied the Bells with 5 innings of strong relief, and looked dominant at times on the hill.

The Bells threatened a few times throughout the game, including in the bottom of the ninth when Elijah Skipps singled for his second hit of the game to give the Bells a base runner with one out. But, alas the Bells were not able to capitalize on their opportunities.

The opening day crowd of 2,669 was remarkable in both size and passion, being one of the largest crowds in Bells history and also a very passionate one that supported the Bells vigorously to the final out.

The Bells take the field again tomorrow Tuesday June 8th for game two against the Corvallis Knights at 7:05. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:35 on http://network1sports.com/station/bellinghambells with Tom Prizeman at 6:35. To purchase tickets visit http://bellinghambells.com/home/ or call (367) 527-1035.
