Bellingham Slam News Release

Bellingham, Wash. - The American Basketball Association's Bellingham Slam announced that the team has filled out its active roster with the signing of three players today. Signing with the Slam are Scott Freymond, Matt Short, and Jared Stevenson.

Freymond, 26, will be a familiar face to Whatcom County basketball fans. The 6'2" guard played for Whatcom Community College before transferring to Central Washington, where he was an all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference honorable mention his junior year. After graduating from Central Washington, where he currently ranks 19th on the all-time scoring list, Freymond played professionally last season for the ABA's Los Angeles Aftershock and this summer for the Cananea Miners in Mexico.

Short, 23, is a 7'0" center from the University of Oregon. Short played four seasons at Oregon in a reserve role, including his freshman season when he was teammates with Luke Ridnour, son of Slam head coach Rob Ridnour. Short played in 77 games overall with the Ducks, shooting 54.7% from the floor. Short also saw action in the 2003 NCAA Tournament against Utah, where he scored six points and pulled down six rebounds.

Stevenson, a 28-year-old point guard from Western Washington, re-joins the Slam after playing with the team in a reserve role during the 2005-06 season. In four games last season, he averaged 4.5 points per game on 45.5% shooting. Stevenson was a standout at Sehome High School, before moving on to Western where he set the school's career scoring record in 2000 with 1,728 points. The record stood until last season when it was broken by Grant Dykstra.

Freymond, Short, and Jared Stevenson join Brian Dennis, Brandon Hartley, Michael Jones, Mike Parker, and Jacob Stevenson to make up the Slam's eight-man active roster for the 2006-07 season. In addition to the players on the active roster, the Slam expect to sign several players to the team's practice squad in the coming weeks.

The Slam's first home game of the 2006-07 season will take place Nov. 16 against the Hollywood Fame. Season ticket packages are currently on sale for the Slam, while single game tickets will go on sale Nov. 1.
