Amarillo, TX 2/7/11 - As the National Football League's season comes to a close, the Indoor Football League's season kicks off.
Players hoping to make the Amarillo Venom's roster are arriving in Amarillo this week and camp is set to begin on Friday February 11th. The Venom are expecting around 45 players to report to camp, but will have the tough task of trimming the roster to 25 following their February 20th exhibition matchup against the Allen Wranglers.
The Amarillo Venom enter camp as the defending Lonestar West Division Champions. In 2010 the Venom went 11-3 and lost to the Arkansas Diamonds 41-36 in the divisional round of the playoffs.
The Venom are expecting 10 players from last year's team in camp, but according to Joe Morgado, the team's General Manager, these players will have to earn their roster spot.
"Our coaches have done an excellent job of recruiting in the offseason," said Morgado. "I am anticipating a very competitive camp with lots of new talent."
Tickets for the February 20th exhibition game are on sale through the Amarillo Venom office, located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo, and single game tickets for the regular season go on sale February 18th.
