Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees couldn't pick up the series split with the Sacramento River Cats Sunday afternoon as they lost 9-2. The Bees dropped four out of six games in the series and were handed their first series loss since July 4-10, also against Sacramento.

Matt Thaiss and Braxton Martinez had two hits apiece in the loss, as the Bees only mustered six hits all afternoon. Jake Gatewood hit an inside-the-park home run in the ninth inning, making him 1-for-4 on the day with two RBI.

The River Cats broke things open in the second inning, putting up five runs and taking a 5-0 lead. The Bees wouldn't score their first run until the seventh inning when Gatewood brought home Michael Stefanic with a sacrifice fly.

With Salt Lake down 9-1 and just two outs left to work with, Gatewood hit one off the top of the wall in center field and raced around the bases for the second Salt Lake inside-the-park home run of the season.

The Bees will travel back to Reno this week for a six-game series against the Aces.
