
Bedard And Sterling Earn IHL Monthly Honors For April

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks are proud to announce that Mickael Bedard has been named IHL Rookie of the Month and Larry Sterling has been named IHL Goaltender of the Month for April.
Bedard, a 22-year-old Montreal, native tallied seven points on three goals and four assists in eight games in the last month of the 2009-10 regular season, earning a plus-minus rating of +8 along the way.
The 2009-10 IHL Rookie of the Year was also named Rookie of the Month in December and January. He has collected three Rookie of the Week honors as well as four Player of the Week awards this season.
Sterling kicked off the month with his first official shutout of the season April 2nd against Quad City. In his next start, he set a franchise record for saves in a regulation game with 45. Sterling went 4-1-0-0 in April with two overtime victories and a league-best goals against average of 2.04.
This is the sixth time Sterling has been honored by the league, and his third Goaltender of the Month award. The third-year Icehawks goalie was also named the league's best net minder in October and December.
The Icehawks begin their march to the Turner Cup this Thursday when they travel to Fort Wayne for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the two-time defending champion Komets. Port Huron will host game two Saturday at 7:30 p.m. A free pre-game tailgate party will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of McMorran Arena, including free food, beverages and entertainment. The first 1000 fans at the game will receive a playoff rally towel courtesy of University of Michigan-Flint, and Maverick, a live hawk will be on hand for photo opportunities.
