
Meijer IHL Monthly Honors For April Announced

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Tuesday that Fort Wayne left wing P.C. Drouin has been named the Meijer IHL Player of the Month, Port Huron left wing Mickael Bedard has been named the Meijer IHL Rookie of the Month and Port Huron goaltender Larry Sterling has been named the Meijer IHL Goaltender of the Month for the month of April.
Drouin completed the last month of the regular season scoring five goals and dishing out 10 assists for 15 points with a plus-nine rating in 10 games played. The left wing had points in seven of the 10 games played, including registering six multi-point games. Drouin had a Komet season-high six-game assist streak during the month of April, recording nine assists from April 3rd to April 16th . The 35-year- old St. Lambert, Quebec native finished the season fifth in the IHL in scoring with 82 points, scoring 26 goals and 56 assists. Drouin was one of three Komet players to have played in all 76 games during the regular season.
Other players nominated for the Meijer IHL Player of the Month include: Bloomington center Jon Booras, Dayton forward Corey Couturier, Flint center Bryan Smolinski, Muskegon center Damian Surma, Port Huron right wing Mike Kinnie and Quad City center Juris Stals.
Bedard closed out the final month of his rookie season scoring three goals and four assists for seven points with a plus-eight rating in eight games played by the Icehawks. He began the month with a five -game point streak, recording all seven of his points during that streak. He was held scoreless the remaining three games, but did not have one penalty minute during the month. The 22-year-old Montreal, Quebec native finished the season leading the Icehawks in scoring with 73 points (35 goals, 38 assists) in 76 games played. Bedard also finished the regular season leading all rookies in points (73), goals (35), assists (38), plus/minus rating (plus-34) and tied teammate Brandon Naurato for the lead in power play goals (11).
Other players nominated for the Meijer IHL Rookie of the Month include: Bloomington defenseman Cole Ruwe, Dayton forward Mike Vaskivuo, Flint forward John Mori, Fort Wayne right wing Sean O'Connor, Muskegon right wing J.T. Dahlinger and Quad City right wing Brandon Marino.
Sterling wrapped up the final month of the regular season with a 4-1-0-0 record. He stopped a total of 156 shots in his six games played, posting a 2.04 goals against average and a .934 save percentage. The Icehawks netminder kicked off the month of April earning his first official shutout of the season on April 2nd against Quad City. Sterling stopped all 26 shots he faced from the Mallards to earn the 6-0 shutout victory. His next start, he recorded a franchise-high in saves in a regulation game for the Icehawks, making 45 in a 4-2 win over Flint. The 27-year-old Lake Orion, Michigan native finished the 2009-10 regular season ranked fourth among IHL goaltenders in goals against average (2.76), tied for fourth in save percentage (.912) and tied for third in wins (23).
Other goaltenders nominated for the Meijer IHL Goaltender of the Month include: Bloomington's Andrew Martin, Dayton's Derek MacIntyre, Flint's Rob Nolan, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Muskegon's Sebastien Centomo and Quad City's Jerad Kaufmann.
