SOUTH HADLEY, MA - Luke Beckstein (Newport, INF, Northeastern) and Luis Misla (SUNY Cortland) have won the 2023 All-Star Fan Vote, and will join the rosters for Sunday's 2023 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Star Game, presented by Metro Credit Union.
After a thrilling contest with more than 10,000 votes cast, Beckstein was voted in for the East Division, which includes the Gulls, Ocean State Waves, Martha's Vineyard Sharks, Mystic Schooners, Sanford Mainers and the host North Shore Navigators. Misla was voted in for the West Division, beating out fellow nominees from the Keene SwampBats, North Adams Steeplecats, Bristol Blues, Danbury Westerners, Vermont Mountaineers, and Valley Blue Sox.
Back for its eighth season, the fan vote gives one player from each team who was not selected for the All-Star Game the chance to earn a spot as the 30th member of each roster.
Beckstein has been a mainstay in the high powered Gulls lineup that has them sitting with the best record in the NECBL (27-8). He has a .250 average on the season, with seventeen hits and twelve runs scored in twenty-two games played. Beckstein currently leads the Gulls in walks (14) and ranks second with four stolen bases on the year.
Beckstein gives the Gulls six All-Stars this season, tied with Ocean State and North Shore for the most on the East Division Roster.
Misla has had quite the season for the Nighthawks, going 3-1 in eight games (four games started) with a 2.34 ERA. He has pitched twenty-three innings and has struck out twenty-five hitters. Misla is currently fourth on the Nighthawks in ERA with at least ten innings pitched, and has the most innings pitched (23), most strikeouts (25), and most wins (3) on the Nighthawks roster.
Misla brings Upper Valley's All-Star tally to six, tied with Bristol and Danbury for the most on the West Roster.
The 2023 NECBL All-Star Game will be held at Fraser Field, home of the Navigators, on Sunday July 23. Tickets are $7 and are available for purchase here. More information about the schedule and directions can be found here.
Sunday's festivities will start at 2:00 p.m. with the Home Run Derby, followed by the first pitch of the All-Star Game at 4:30 p.m.
