Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release
LUBBOCK, TX: February 15, 2006 - The Lubbock Cotton Kings made some late moves Tuesday, as defenseman Jason Beatty was assigned back to the club from the San Antonio Rampage and goaltender Tyson Gajda was released. Today, the Cotton Kings made an additional move and signed goaltender Brad Buss to a standard player agreement.
Beatty, a 22 year-old native of Sturgis, Saskatchewan, was scoreless in five games played with the Phoenix Coyote's top affiliate and had two penalty minutes. With the NHL taking a two-week break due to the XX Winter Olympics in Torin, Italy, the Coyotes assigned a pair of players to San Antonio, forcing the Rampage to make roster deletions. Beatty could earn a future trip back to San Antonio, but for now, he returns to the Cotton Kings, where he has appeared in 38 games this season and has a goal and six assists for seven points. He ranks tied for second on the Kings squad this season with 88 penalty minutes.
Buss, a 24 year-old rookie goaltender from Clinton Township, Michigan, was initially signed to a five-game tryout agreement after coming in on emergency terms to fill for the injured Tyson Gajda. Since joining the squad, Buss has started in three games and has won two of them. His first pro start resulted in a win, as he stopped 33 of 35 shots on the road in Oklahoma City, and his last start came Saturday in a 4-3 road win at Colorado. Buss currently holds a 2-1-0 record with a 3.01 GAA and a 90.4% save percentage.
Gajda departs the Kings roster with a 1-0-0 record in two starts in net. In his Kings debut on January, 29th, Gajda stopped 34 of 38 shots in an overtime win over Odessa, but left the following start (February 3rd vs. Amarillo) due to an injury. The Westfield, Massachusetts native had a 3.11 GAA and a 90.7% save percentage in 77 minutes of net time.
