Bears Pound Bluefish, 12-3

Newark, NJ –Friday, June 28, 2002 – The Newark Bears momentarily regained their two game lead over the Somerset Patriots and the Camden Riversharks, by defeating the Bridgeport Bluefish 12-3 in game one of tonight's scheduled double header.

Second Baseman Justin Hall led Newark's attack by going 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 5 RBIs as Donato Calandriello (1-0) picked up his first win of the season by going five innings and allowing just three runs on eight hits. Al Sontag (1-3) left the game for Bridgeport after going only 2.1 innings and allowing six runs on five hits and two walks.

Pito Ramirez was 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's while Jimmy Hurst led the Bears with 3 runs scored. Only Jose Amado, 2-for-3, and Brendan Kingman, 2-for-3, were able to pick up more than one hit against the Bears.

Game two of tonight's double header is set to begin in just a few minutes with Clearshot playing live music on the concourse as part of Newark's Alive at Five series.
