Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins were handed their first loss of the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs by falling to the Hershey Bears, 2-0, at Giant Center on Friday night.
With the best-of-seven Atlantic Division Final knotted up at one game apiece, the Penguins head home to Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza for Game 3 tomorrow night, Saturday, May 7.
A shorthanded goal at 12:43 of the opening frame by Sean Collins put Hershey on the scoreboard first.
Carter Camper was set up on a cross-ice pass in the offensive zone and one-timed it into the Penguins' net for a 2-0 Bears lead at 15:06 of the first period.
After fending off a 1:55-long five-on-three man advantage for Hershey late in the second period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton outshot their opponent 17-8, but were unable to get any pucks past Justin Peters as the Bears held on for the 2-0 win.
The Penguins penalty kill finished the game a perfect three-for-three including the lengthy two-man advantage for the Bears.
Casey DeSmith made 23 saves between the pipes for the Penguins. Peters recorded 27 stops for his second shutout of this postseason.
The series comes to Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza for Games 3 and 4 on Saturday, May 7 and Monday, May 9. Monday's contest is a Kids Get in Free game, for which children age 14 and under can see the Penguins take on the Bears free of charge with the purchase of an adult ticket.
Individual game tickets for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton home playoff games as well as postseason ticket packages can be purchased at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza box office, through all Ticketmaster outlets, or by contacting the Penguins directly at (570) 208-7367.
