Port Huron Flags News Release
The Beacons started the week at home against the visiting Fort Wayne Komets. This was the first trip to McMorran for the defending Colonial Cup Champions. The game was scoreless until late in the third period. The Beacons were out shot 4 to 17 in the first period and 12 to 13 in the second period. Colin Chaulk earned his 14th goal of the season at 18:44 of the third period. Port Huron in an attempt to tie the game pulled goaltender Stu Dunn to have the sixth man attacker on the ice. However, Fort Wayne dominated the attempt and David Beauregard earned his 21st goal of the season on an empty net at 19:47. The Beacons were shut out and ended their longest home winning streak of the season. Port Huron was out shot 24 to 52 and neither team was able to convert on their one power play opportunity of the game that came in the second period. Stu Dunn was outstanding in net stopping 50 of 51 Komet shots. Record against the Komets moves to 0-2-0 for the season.
Sunday the Beacons traveled to Quad City to take on the Mallards. The Beacons started the scoring for the night at 8:16 of the first period with Brent Gretzky's 27th goal of the season. Port Huron dominated the first period out shooting the Mallards 12 to 6. Second period Tom Menicci got the Mallards on the board at 4:23 of the period and followed up minutes later at 6:10 from Dylan Mills to give Quad City the lead. The Mallards would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game. Port Huron responded at 6:35 of the second period with Ben Genesse's 9th goal of the season tying the game two a piece. Quad City just responded again this time short handed with a goal by Lanny Gare at 9:17. But Port Huron was not giving up and David Bell earned his 5th goal of the season at 9:53 bringing the game back tied 3 to 3. The Mallards earned two more goals that period with Jason Sessa's goal at 12:05 and Jeff Williams's goal at 12:85. Quad City continued the scoring at 3:53 of the third and Jeff Williams's second goal of the night short handed at 7:26. The Beacons made a third period effort netting two more goals first from Ben Genesse, his second of the night and 10th of the season at 14:15 and Aaron Brand, his 17th of the season at 18:22. The Mallards earned one more goal before the game was over at 15:11, Hugo Proulx's second of the night. The Beacons get out scored 5 to 8 and out shot 28 to 41 for the night. Record against moves to 1-2-1 for the season.
The Beacons end the week 00-02-00, third place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 19-15-03 and 41 points.
Beacons Fast Forward - All three games for the Beacons this week are against the I-69 rivals the Flint Generals. First match up is on Wednesday, January 28th when the Beacons travel to Flint and back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday on home ice at McMorran. The Generals are in second place of the Eastern Conference and have a record of 21-17-3 with 45 points. They have a home record of 12-5-3 and a road record of 9-12-0. They are currently on a three game losing streak. The Beacons are 6-8-3 on the road and 13-7-0 on home ice. Port Huron is currently on a two game losing streak. So far this season the Beacons are 1-2-1 against the Generals. Last season the Beacons dominated with a record of 6-1-1 against Flint.

Weekly Honors â The Beacons nominated Defensemen David Bell and Goaltender Stu Dunn for the UHL's Sher Wood Player and Goaltender of the Week. Bell earned 3 points (1 goal & 2 assists) during the two Beacons games this week. Dunn went 0-2-0 for the week. He faced 92 shots total and completes the week with a 0.902 save percentage and 4.5 goals against average.
