BC Yankees Open Season Thursday

March 30, 2003 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The Battle Creek Yankees will open the 2003 Midwest League baseball season on the road this Thursday, with the home opener set for April 11 — the latest home opener in franchise history.

The team will play its first game as the Battle Creek Yankees — and as an affiliate of the New York Yankees — at West Michigan on Thursday, April 3. After four games at West Michigan and three at Lansing, the BC Yankees will have an off day before opening the home season on Friday, April 11, against West Michigan. The Yankees will host West Michigan for four games — making eight of their first 11 games against the Whitecaps — before a four-game homestand against the Quad City River Bandits.

Individual game tickets for BC Yankees games are on sale at the ticket offices at C.O. Brown Stadium. Tickets for all 70 home games are available for purchase. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Ticket prices are: $8 for field box seats, $7 for box seats, $6 for general admission (adults), and $4 for general admission (children, senior citizens and military members).

The promotional schedule includes these weekly events:

Sundays — Family Fun Day. Clown around and enjoy face-painting fun before and during the game. After the game, take the field to play catch, run the bases, and more; weather permitting. It's also Burnham Brook Center Senior Sunday, with half-price general admission tickets for seniors 55-over.

Mondays — Food Bank Monday (two non-perishable food items are good for one general admission ticket, with all food donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of South Central Michigan). Last season the team collected 3,671 pounds of food.

Tuesdays — Kent Quality Foods Two-fer Tuesday (2-for-1 tickets and 2-for-1 hot dogs).

Wednesdays — WIN 98.5 Winning WINsday (Guaranteed victory! If the Yankees win, fans win a free Coke at a future game. If the Yankees lose, fans receive a free ticket to the next Wednesday game.)

Thursdays — Thirsty Thursday ($1 pop and beer).

Also on tap are five fireworks nights, three Bobble Head Doll nights, three Wednesday noon games, special theme nights, the return of the ever-popular Dog Days, and more.

For tickets and information, contact the BC Yankees at (269) 660-2287.

The 2003 season will mark the team's ninth in Battle Creek. The Michigan Battle Cats were affiliated with the Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros for four years each before joining the Yankees' farm system. The team has made the MWL playoffs seven of its eight years in the league; winning the championship in 2000.
