Mobile BayBears News Release
Pensacola, Fla. - The Pensacola Blue Wahoos beat the Mobile BayBears 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Eric Jagielo drove in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. The walk-off win was Pensacola's fourth win in the six game series against Mobile.
With a loss by the Biloxi Shuckers earlier in the day, Pensacola (41-29) had already clinched the Southern League South Division First-Half title and a spot in the 2016 Southern League Playoffs.
The loss negated a great start by Mobile (32-38). RHP Matt Koch made his second start back off the Disabled List and shutout Pensacola, only allowing three hits over five full innings on the mound. Koch left with a 1-0 lead after the BayBears scored on a RBI single from Ronnie Freeman in the top of the second inning.
Pensacola evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Tony Renda scored on an inside-the-park home run after a popup to left was dropped after BayBears shortstop Ildemaro Vargas collided with left fielder, Cody Regis.
In the bottom of the ninth with the score still tied, Jagielo drove in Brandon Dixon with a single down the left field line.
