Mobile BayBears News Release

The Mobile BayBears dropped game one of a five game road series with the Huntsville Stars, falling 4-2 Tuesday night at Joe Davis Stadium. The BayBears took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, but fell behind an inning later when the Stars scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 3-2 lead. Huntsville added a run in the seventh inning, and the Stars bullpen held Mobile scoreless through the final three frames to seal the victory. Mobile has now started the second half with a 2-4 record.

Marc Krauss (pictured right) led off the top of the fourth inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild throw form Stars RHP Josh Stinson. David Nick put the BayBears on the board with a RBI single in the next at-bat and reached second base on a throwing error by Stars third baseman Hainley Statia. After a ground out by Yazy Arbelo moved Nick to third with one out, Mobile took a 2-0 lead when Nick scored and Dan Kaczrowski reached base on the second fielding error of the frame by Statia.

RHP Gaby Hernandez was credited with the loss despite a strong start with four scoreless innings. Hernandez exited after allowing three runs on six hits in six innings of work. The three runs given up by Hernandez all came in the fifth inning when Lee Haydel scored from third on a wild pitch and Hunter Morris knocked out a two-run homer, giving the Stars a lead they would not relinquish.

The BayBears and Stars continue the five games series with game two scheduled for Wednesday starting at 6:43 PM. Mobile will return home on July 1st for a three game set with the Mississippi Braves.
