Mobile BayBears News Release
The Mobile BayBears dropped the series finale to the Chattanooga Lookouts in 9-4 defeat Tuesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. The Lookouts picked up their first series win of 2012 while Mobile dropped their second straight game at home. Despite Tuesday's loss, the BayBears remain five games ahead of the Jacksonville Suns for first place in the Southern League standings.
BayBear righty Brett Lorin was searching for his first win in his fifth start for Mobile but ran into trouble in the first inning, allowing two runs to score after being charged with two consecutive throwing errors. The Lookouts added a third run with a solo homer from Matt Wallach in the second inning. Lorin exited the game after five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits resulting in his third loss of the season.
The BayBears offense responded to the Lookouts early lead win a run of their own when Marc Krauss doubled in the bottom of the first to bring home David Nick. In the bottom of the second inning Yazy Arbelo sent a home run over the center field wall for the second straight day putting Mobile with in one run of Chattanooga's 3-2 lead. In the top of the third the Lookouts extended their lead scoring two more runs in the top of the third inning but again the BayBears pulled with-in a one of Chattanooga in the bottom of the fifth inning when Matt Davidson and Marc Krauss delivered on back to back home runs.
The Lookouts pitching staff would hold the BayBears scoreless over the final five frames while Chattanooga added four more runs to back starting right-hander Ethan Martin who remained undefeated, improving to (5-0) despite surrendering four runs on eight hits over five innings.
They BayBears will have an off day on Thursday in preparation for a five game road swing against the Jackson Generals.
