BayBears Comeback Falls Short, Suns up 2-1 in Series

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Mobile erased a six run deficient to draw within two runs and bring the go-ahead run to the plate with one out in the bottom of the ninth but ultimately the Jacksonville Suns edged the Mobile BayBears 7-5 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville on Saturday night.
With the win, Jacksonville now leads the best of five series 2-1 and can advance to the Southern League Championship Series with a win on Sunday night. The BayBears must win the final two games of the series to avoid elimination and advance to the Championship series.
Jacksonville struck first Saturday night with three runs in the bottom of the second on three straight solo home runs from Suns batters Viosergy Rosa, Brady Shoemaker and Joe Benson. The Suns plated four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, capped with a three run homer from Terrence Dayleg.
All seven Suns runs were credited to BayBears starting RHP Aaron Blair. Blair allowed the seven earned runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out four in five innings on the mound for the loss (0-1).
LHP Justin Nicolino (1-0) earned the win, allowing three earned runs on eight hits over seven innings.
Mobile scored one run in the fourth then two in the seventh inning setting the BayBears up to enter the top of the ninth inning down by four. Mobile loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth when Tom Bleza cut the Suns lead in half driving in two runners with a single. Down 7-5, the BayBears had runners at first and second with one out but RHP Matt Ramsey entered the game for the Suns and struckout Dustin Martin and Brandon Drury for the final two outs to seal the Jacksonville victory.
Mobile and Jacksonville continue the best of five series from Bragan Field at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Sunday night at 7:05 PM ET.
