BayBears bounce back and defeat the Lookouts

Mobile, Ala. – Before an out was recorded in the bottom of the first inning Saturday night, the Mobile BayBears had matched their four hits from the entire game on Friday night. The BayBears collected 13 hits in all to win the second game of their series with the Chattanooga Lookouts 6-3, in front of 3,358 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium.

The BayBears used those four straight hits in the first inning to score two runs with Rico Washington and Jon Knott picking up the RBIs. Mobile leads the Southern League in first inning runs with 70 on the season.

After Chattanooga scored a run in the top of the second, the BayBears got it right back. J.J. Furmaniak hit a solo blast well over the wall in left for his first Double-A homerun.

Chattanooga used two doubles in the top of the third inning to trim the lead to 3-2. Dernell Stenson drove in Santiago Perez with his double into the right-centerfield gap.

Furmaniak picked up his second RBI of the night as he drove in Danny Bravo with a line drive up the middle in the bottom of the fourth inning. The BayBears had the bases loaded with one out in the frame but could manage only the single tally.

The BayBears continued to rough up Lookouts starter Bobby Basham in the fifth. Humberto Quintero followed to singles with an RBI double to the wall in right, one of his three hits on the night, scoring Jake Gautreau and Furmaniak knocked in his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly, plating Bravo. Furmaniak entered the night with two RBI on the season.

Mobile starter Cory Stewart (9-5) earned the win with five solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four. Closer Rusty Tucker picked up his 25th save of the season working a scoreless ninth.

The BayBears and Lookouts will play game three of their series Sunday night at 7:05. RHP Chris Oxspring (6-3; 3.24) will get the start on the mound for Mobile against Chattanooga's RHP Daylan Childress (0-1; 4.50).

As always on Sundays at Hank Aaron Stadium, it's Ice Cream Sunday with the first 1,000 fans through the gates receiving free ice cream.
