Mobile BayBears News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FL - With a 9-1 loss to the Jacksonville Suns Monday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, the Mobile BayBears season came to an end. With the win over the BayBears, the Suns clinched the 2014 Southern League South Division Championship Series 3-1 to advance to the Southern League Championship while Mobile was eliminated from the playoffs.

The BayBears loss snaps a streak of three consecutive trips to the Southern League Championship Series with Mobile winning back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.

The Suns won their 13th game in the last 14 contest to advance.

Game four game was resumed Monday afternoon after being suspended Sunday night due to rain. The Suns led 4-1 with Viosergy Rosa on second base and Joe Benson at the plate with a full count and two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning before the game was suspended on Sunday night.

When play continued Monday, Mobile recorded the final out in the bottom of the fifth without allowing the runner to score but the Suns posted two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-run double off of Rosa's bat. Then Jacksonville plated three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull ahead for the 9-1 lead and eventual final score.

The one lone run for Mobile came in the top of the fourth inning on a RBI single from Todd Glaesmann. The win was credited to Suns RHP Jay Rogers who started the game on Sunday night. Rogers allowed one run on four hits over five innings of work. BayBears RHP A.J. Schugel took the loss. The righty allowed four runs, three of them earned on five hits over the first 3.1 innings.

The BayBears 2015 season opens on the road April 9th at the Birmingham Barons. Hank Aaron Stadium will host the home opener versus Biloxi Baseball on April 15th. The BayBears will look to clinch a playoff spot for the sixth consecutive season.
