
Bay Sox Hold on to Beat Valley, 5-3

New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
Holyoke - The New Bedford Bay Sox would hold onto a two-run lead, winning by a final score of five to three against the Valley Blue Sox in Holyoke. Jon Escobar (Holy Cross) would shut the door by striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth and earn his first save of the season.
New Bedford's offense, although slumbering of late showed signs of awaking against the Blue Sox. Multiple Bay Sox contributed to the offensive act.
T.J Dixon (Samford) would go two for four with two singles and a stolen base. Jayson Sullivan (Sacred Heart) would continue his hot hitting. He would go two for four with a double and one RBI. Rowdy Andrews (Eckerd) and Manny Morris (Villanova) would each contribute singles.
Valley starter Will Coursen-Carr (Indiana) would have a short night on the mound for the Blue Sox. In the third inning Bay Sox batters would get to Coursen-Carr for four runs on just three hits. New Bedford would also draw three walks in the third and put pressure on the defense by stealing three bases, two by Tyler Orris (Millersville).
The final line for Coursen-Carr would be 2 1/3rd innings pitched allowing two runs on two hits and five walks.
Howard Brey would pitch well as he has done in his previous two starts for New Bedford. In five complete innings of work Brey struck out four while surrendering a sole walks. Brey would allow no runs on his night.
Michael Goren (Clemson) would come in relief, tossing two innings for New Bedford and striking out two.
Tonight's First Citizens Player of the game is awarded to New Bedford catcher Garret Demers. His third inning two RBI single would be the difference make, helping the Bay Sox even their overall record to five and five.
The Bay Sox will return home to Paul Walsh Field tonight at 6:30. New Bedford will host the Mystic Schooners for the second time this season.
