BattleWings Assigned Six Veteran Players

Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release


Bossier City, LA (November 12, 2009)-The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings have been assigned six veteran players: Elex Reed, Manwell Talbert, Jason Schule, Art Carmody, Moqut Ruffins, and Joe Woolridge. Head Coach Jon Norris is bringing back a strong group of former BattleWings to lead the team in their 10th Anniversary season.

Reed, 6- foot- 5 Offensive/ Defensive Lineman, returns to the BattleWings after a stint with the Cleveland Gladiators in the AFL. In 2007 he was named af2 "Lineman of The Year" averaging 37.5 tackles per game, and 17.5 sacks on the season.

Talbert, the BattleWings' franchise leader in receptions is gearing for his 4th season in the black and green. The New Mexico State Alum finished 2009 with over 100 career touchdowns.

Schule, known as the "Bayou Butcher" and "Schule the Mule, returns for his 4 th season with the local team. Last year he broke the af2 single season rushing record with 655 yards.

Carmody, a local product out of Loyola High School and Louisville, will be back handling the kicking duties for Norris. The 2006 Lou Groza Award Winner, 6th in the league kicking 87.9% in accuracy on PAT's, was a finalist in 2009 for kicker of the year.

The 6'5, 300lb Ruffins returns to the trenches again in 2010 after being known as one of the versatile players on Norris' squad. The Louisiana Tech grad was an All af2 Offensive Lineman in 2009.

Woolridge, earned the nickname "Crazy Joe" from his coaches and fellow teammates last season as he showed his big playing abilities on the field. The Western Kentucky alum was recognized as part of the all af2 second team.

BattleWings' head coach Jon Norris says, "This is a great day for the BattleWings with these assigned players who work well together. Each one of these guys are not only great on the field, but in our community as well. They are also excited about being a part of the 10th anniversary season as it gets underway and bringing a championship to their fans."

The 2010 season is scheduled to begin in latter March or the first part of April. The schedule should be released by the end of this month.
