Charleston Battery News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Battery will host Miami FC Saturday night (May 12) at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island; kick off is set for 7:30 PM. The game is the first of two scheduled between the clubs in 2007; the Battery travels to Miami for the return leg on Sunday, September 2.

The Battery (0-1-2) is still looking for their first win of the year following last Sunday's 1-1 draw versus Rochester. Charleston midfielder Gordon Chin gave the Battery an early lead in the 3rd minute but his strike was cancelled out by a Johnny Menyongar goal, scored in the 58th minute.

Miami (1-2) enters the game coming off of a 0-1 loss against Montreal in a game played last weekend in Miami. Miami finished the match with only ten men after midfielder John Pulido was ejected; Pulido will be suspended for Saturday's match with Charleston.

Miami is led by second-year head coach Chiquinho de Assis. de Assis led Miami to the playoffs in 2006 but the south Floridians suffered a first-round exit at the hands of eventual champions the Vancouver Whitecaps. Brazilian World Cup winner Zinho has returned to Miami for a second season with Miami FC; Zinho has featured in every match so far.

This week's game against Miami concludes the Battery's four-game opening season home stand; the team takes to the road next Saturday to play the Carolina RailHawks on May 19 (7:30 PM - 1340 AM).
