Battery Signs Two Goalkeepers

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery has agreed to terms with two new goalkeepers ahead of the start of the 2012 USL PRO season. Alec Kann and Kevin Klasila both join the Battery for their rookie pro seasons after impressing during pre-season. Both goalkeepers sign subject to USL and USSF approval.

Alec Kann was a four-year starter at Furman University. Kann, 6-4, 190 lbs., 21 yrs.

He is a native of Decatur, GA and attended Lakeside High School.

"Alec has had a tremendous career at Furman University and has shown that he has the ability to become a very good professional goalkeeper" said Mike Anhaeuser, Battery Head Coach.

Kevin Klasila was a four-year starter at Santa Clara University majoring in Marketing. A native of Los Angeles, CA, Klasila, 6-1, 185 lbs., 22 yrs., attended Loyola High School.

"I saw Kevin at the Ventura County Fusion combine in California; he did very well and continued to show well after coming to Charleston to earn his contract" Anhaeuser commented.

"Both goalkeepers are young but both have a very bright future in the professional game" he said.

Battery plays Wilmington Hammerheads in pre-season scrimmage

The Charleston Battery plays fellow USL PRO side the Wilmington Hammerheads in its final home pre-season scrimmage on Saturday at Blackbaud Stadium; kick off is set for 4 PM. There is no charge for admission. The Battery will travel to Cary, NC on Thursday for its final pre-season test versus the Carolina RailHawks.

The Battery opens its USL PRO campaign in Richmond on Saturday, April 7.

Charleston Battery home opener - Saturday April 14

The Charleston Battery home opener is set for Saturday, April 14 at Blackbaud Stadium versus the Richmond Kickers; kick off is set for 7:30 PM. The game is the official kick off celebration for the Battery's 20th anniversary season, the team will be wearing special 'retro '93' jerseys and there will be Fireworks immediately following the match.
