Charleston Battery News Release
Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery has agreed to terms with two new players for the 2003 A-League season. Forward Josh Henderson joins Charleston from its Southeast Division rival the Richmond Kickers. The Battery has also signed midfielder Barry Moore; Moore comes to Charleston from English Conference side Crawley Town.
Charleston Battery Head Coach, Chris Ramsey,
"Josh and his family made a life-changing decision to move to this region and we are fortunate that this allows us to capitalize on his choice. Having seen Josh play throughout the season, I believe that he can enhance our squad and judging by his character, he will fight hard to force his way into the team."
"Barry attended the Battery trials in February 2002, unfortunately at that time we were unable to sign him. After watching him again during my recent trip to England, I have decided to take a chance on him as I think he has the potential to become a useful member of the squad." Josh Henderson
Josh Henderson arrives at the Battery from last seasons A-League runners-up the Richmond Kickers. Henderson spent two seasons at Richmond playing 60 games and scoring 27 goals. Henderson led the Kickers in scoring in 2002 with 16 goals and 3 assists for 35 points. Versus the Battery he had a goal and two assists.
A Baton Rouge, LA native, Henderson began his professional career in 1998 with the New Orleans Storm. After one season with the Storm, Henderson joined the Leigh High Valley Steam in 1999 where he scored 7 goals and added 4 assists. In 2000 he moved to the Atlanta Silverbacks, playing 26 games again scoring 7 goals and adding seven assists.
In 2001 with the Richmond Kickers, Henderson tallied 11 times with 4 assists in 28 games played.
A three year starter at Duke University, Henderson was a member of the 1995 Blue Devils team that progressed to the National Championship game.
Barry Moore
25 year old midfielder, Barry Moore comes to Charleston after five years in the English Conference. A native of Kingston Upon Thames, England, Moore joins the Battery from Dr Martens Premier Division side Crawley Town.
