
Battery Heads to Dayton for First Road Game

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery (1-0-0) heads to Dayton, OH this weekend for a Saturday night match against expansion USL PRO franchise the Dayton Dutch Lions. The Battery opened their season last Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium with a 1-0 win versus the Charlotte Eagles; this will be Dayton's first match of the season.
Saturday's game will be available on USLLive.com with the streaming video broadcast starting at 7:30 PM. Fan's can also follow the match progress on Twitter at Chas_Battery; there will be no radio broadcast of this game.
Battery forward Dane Kelly provided the spark that led to the lone goal on Saturday night. Kelly rounded his defender in the 58th minute and played an incisive ball across the face of goal that Charlotte defender Mark Bloom knocked into his own net.
Goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra earned the shutout win on his debut for the Charleston Battery, recording two saves.
Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser should have the majority of his squad available for selection on Saturday night. Veteran defender Colin Falvey served a one-match suspension last week but will be available for the game in Dayton.
The Dayton Dutch Lions have moved up to USL PRO for the 2011 season after one year in the PDL that saw them earn a third place finish.
Dayton is coached by Ivar van Dinteren who played for the Dutch Lions in 2010. A native of the Netherlands van Dinteren played over 300 games in the Premier League and First Division in Holland. He also played for the Dutch National Youth teams up to the U23 level.
The Dayton roster includes George Davis IV who spent part of the 2011 preseason in camp with the Charleston Battery.
Next Home Match - Saturday, April 30 vs Pittsburgh
The Charleston Battery returns to Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday, April 30 to face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds; kick off is set for 7:30 PM. The Charleston Battery is teaming up with Dragon Boat Charleston and the Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure(r) for this match and will be wearing special custom Pink UMBRO jerseys that will be auctioned off immediately after the game with 100% of the proceeds to benefit the charities.
In addition to raising money and awareness for these two charities during the match versus Pittsburgh the Charleston Battery players will show their support by entering a boat as a team in Dragon Boat Charleston on Saturday, May 14.
