Battery heads to Austin for two versus Aztex

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery heads to Austin, TX this weekend for a pair of USL1 matches. The Battery faces Austin Friday night at 8 PM in a game that will be televised live on FOX Soccer Channel. On Sunday the teams square off for a second time with kick off set for 7 PM (SportsRadio 1450AM / www.USLLive.com).

The Charleston Battery (5-0-4, 19 points) enters the game in second position in the USL1 tables and remains unbeaten on the season. The Battery defeated the Cleveland City Stars 2-0 last Saturday night in a game played at Blackbaud Stadium.

Midfielder's Chris Williams and Kenji Treschuk scored the goals as Charleston won its third straight. Battery goalkeeper Dusty Hudock faced four shots but made no saves en route to his league-leading seventh shut-out of the season.

Charleston Battery head coach will have midfielder Tyler Hemming back available for selection this weekend. Hemming missed last Saturday's match versus Cleveland as he was in Cyprus with the Canadian national team.

Midfielder Ian Fuller will not be available for Sunday's game. Fuller picked up his fifth caution of the year versus Cleveland and will serve a one-game suspension Sunday; Fuller will be available for selection for the game on Friday night.

The Austin Aztex are an expansion side in the USL First Division and the games this weekend will mark the first times that the Club's have played. Austin (2-2-3, 9 points) is off to a good start in the USL First Division and although only in 7th position has played two games fewer than the Battery.

The Aztex defeated the Puerto Rico Islanders 3-1 last Friday night; midfielder Yordany Alvarez scored twice and added an assist to lead the Aztex to victory.

Austin is led by head coach Adrian Heath who played in Europe for 18 years beginning his career with his hometown club, Stoke City, before moving onto play for Everton, Espanyol, Aston Villa and Manchester City. With Everton, Heath won two League Championships, the F.A. Cup and the European Cup Winners Cup in a six-year span.

Heath has coached and been an assistant coach for more than 12 years; previous Clubs include Sheffield United, Burnley and Coventry City.

Kenji Treschuk honored

Midfielder Kenji Treschuk has been named to the USL First Division team of the week following his performance during Saturday's 2-0 win versus the Cleveland City Stars. Treschuk's long throw led to the first Charleston goal and he capped his performance with a second-half goal, his first in a Battery uniform.

Friday night Viewing Party at Daniel Island Grill

The game on Friday in Austin is being broadcast live on FOX Soccer Channel with kick off set for 8 PM. There will be a special viewing party at the Daniel Island Grill with food and drink specials starting at 7 PM. Due to the FOX Soccer Channel broadcast their will be no radio coverage of Friday's game. Sunday's match will be available locally via SportsRadio 1450 AM with the pre-game show starting at 6:45 PM.
