City Stars Travel To Puerto Rico For Two Matches

June 3, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Cleveland City Stars News Release

San Juan, Puerto Rico - The Cleveland City Stars head south to Puerto Rico this week to take on the Puerto Rico Islanders in a two game series. The City Stars and the Islanders face off on Thursday June 4th at 8 p.m. and Saturday June 6th at 8 p.m.

The City Stars hope to bounce back after three consecutive losses last week, as they lost twice to the top-ranked Carolina Railhawks and also fell to the undefeated Charleston Battery. The Railhawks beat the City Stars 3-0 in Cleveland, and then eked out another win the following Friday in Carolina, sneaking in the game-winning goal in the 89th minute. Playing back-to-back games left the City Stars with tired legs on Saturday when they fell 2-0 to Charleston, leaving Cleveland with a 1-6-1 record.

Despite the losses, the City Stars form has improved dramatically recently and the City Stars have hung on to their 10th place standing in USL-1 rankings. Cleveland has not scored a goal since the 1-0 win over Minnesota in week six when Joshua Boateng found the back of the net with an impressive shot. The City Stars are in search of the remedy this week on the road.

The Puerto Rico Islanders are currently in 5th place in USL-1 standings, with a well-rounded 3-3-3 record. Last year the Islanders made it to the USL-1 championship where they fell 2-1 to the Vancouver Whitecaps. Top-scorers forward Nicholas Addlery, defender Christian Arrieta, and defender John Krause have carried the Islanders to victories over Vancouver, Montreal and Minnesota. In similar style to the City Stars, in week eight the Islanders fell 3-1 to the Austin Aztex.

The City Stars face off against the Islanders at 8 p.m. on Thursday June 4th, and 8 p.m. on Saturday June 6th. Both matches will be broadcast live on USLlive.com.

Don't miss the Cleveland City Stars next home game on Tuesday June 9th at 7 p.m. when the City Stars take on the PDL's St. Louis Lions in the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The match will mark the first U.S. Open Cup Match in Cleveland during the professional era that started in 1995.

Tickets for the Open Cup match are only $5 and available online at www.clevelandcitystars.com or by calling 330- 425-2003.
