
Battery brings back four players for 2007

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery has inked four returning players for the 2007 USL First Division season. Midfielder Chris Corcoran, defender Tim Karalexis, defender Kevin Nylen and goalkeeper Keith Wiggans have all agreed to terms and will join the Battery squad for pre-season starting on March 13. The addition of these four brings the total number of returning players from last season's third place finishing team to thirteen.

"It is always a pleasure to get four players re-signed from a previous season. This allows us to keep continuity and understanding amongst the team. All four of these players had successful seasons last year and we fully expect them to contribute in the same manner or above this coming season."
Chris Corcoran played in 21 games in 2006 logging 1802 minutes showing versatility by playing in defense and also in a midfield role. Prior to turning pro the Weymouth, MA native, 5-9, 165 lbs, 24 yrs, was a stand-out at St Johns University; he played 75 games, starting 72 times, finishing with 12 goals and 11 assists for 35 points.
Veteran defender Tim Karalexis comes back to Charleston for a third season in 2006 and a sixth overall as a pro. Karalexis played for three years with the Wilmington Hammerheads before joining the Battery in 2004. Another native of Weymouth MA, Karalexis rebounded in 2006 playing 25 games after missing much of the 2005 season with an ACL injury. Prior to turning pro Karalexis 6-2, 185 lbs., 27 yrs, was a two-time All-American at St Anselm College.
Kevin Nylen joined the Charleston Battery late in the 2006 season after playing most of the year with the USL Second Division Wilmington Hammerheads. A versatile defender, Nylen 6-3, 181 lbs, 25 yrs enters his fourth pro season in 2007. Prior to turning pro the Ipswich MA native played for St Anselm College where he was a member of the NSCAA All-America First Team in 2003, and was named Defensive Player of the Year in the All-Northeast-10 Conference.
Goalkeeper Keith Wiggans returns to the Battery after a solid second pro season in 2006 Wiggans played in 10 games after securing a roster spot with impressive performances during last year's Carolina Challenge Cup. A native of Charleston, SC Wiggans, 5-11, 175 lbs, 26 yrs enjoyed a stellar career at the College of Charleston prior to turning pro.
