Jacksonville Barracudas News Release
The Jacksonville Barracudas head down to Kissimmee, FL to play their third game against their in-state rival the Florida Seals tonight, as the Barracudas look to string two wins together for the first time this season.
Last week saw the Cudas play three games in three nights, losing the first two in landslide fashion, before putting together a great effort in front of the home fans on their way to a 3-2 overtime victory.
BATTLE SCARS
The win was a confidence boost for a team whose road-heavy schedule early this season has taken its toll in the form of injuries to key performers. The Barracudas have been without tough forward Caleb Moffatt and stalwart defenseman Andrew Morris since they were placed on the 30-day injured reserve list.
Moffatt had to have his injured jaw surgically repaired, and his return is uncertain, while Morris is suffering from an undisclosed lower body injury. Joining them in the stands has been banging winger Tyrone Garner, whose status for tonight's game against Florida is still uncertain.
Coach Rick Allain is optimistic about his team's chances despite the rash of injuries.
"It seems most of the league is going through what we're going through with injuries," said Allain. "It's an opportunity for guys to step into new roles, and you hope they bring their play up to that next level. It's all a part of being a team."
SHUFFLING THE DECK
Today the Barracudas signed forward Josh Robinson to a contract, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound rookie who played last season as a senior with the Salem State College Vikings. He will replace forward Colby Gilbert in the lineup, as he was placed on waivers after he picked up just one assist and was a -5 in 6 games with the team.
LEADING THE WAY
The Barracudas continue to be led offensively by forward Ryan Webb, whose 13 points on the year is good enough for eight amongst the league's top scorers. Just two points behind him is Pat Doherty, whose ability to come up with timely goals has endeared him to the Barracuda faithful. A pleasant surprise to many has been the play of second-year defenseman Shane Wagner, whose overtime winner on Saturday was his sixth point of the season, landing him in the top ten scorers among defensemen.
HEADING HOME
Unlike the rest of us, the Barracudas players will not be gorging themselves on turkey and mashed potatoes, or rampaging through the stores in search of the biggest deal. That's because the Cudas play at home on Friday against the Huntsville Havoc at 7:05pm. It's Black Friday, so suitably it's a Sam's Club Night. Anyone who brings their Sam's Club Membership card to the Arena Box Office will receive up to four $13.00 tickets for just $7.00 a piece. There will also be some great Sam's Club giveaways, so be sure not to miss this chance to catch exciting Barracudas hockey at a Black Friday price!
