
Battalion slips past Otters

Matt Smyth, John Hughes and Michal Klejna each scored once to lead the Brampton Battalion to a narrow 3-1 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 3,320 at the Tullio Arena. Zack Torquato, with his 20th of the season, netted the lone Otters goal as Erie saw their modest two-game winning streak come to an end. The Otters are now 12-33-1-2 on the season. Brampton ended a four-game winless streak (0-3-0-1) with the win and are now 19-25-1-4 on the season. Brampton led 1-0 after one and 2-0 heading into the third. Torquato scored five minutes into the third to close the gap to one before Klejna hit the open net with one second remaining. Brampton out shot the Otters 30-22 in the game as Kevin Beech took the loss. The three stars of the game were 1. Hughes, 2. Smyth and 3. Torquato.
The Otters wrap up a three-game home stand tomorrow (Saturday) night when the Kitchener Rangers pay a visit in a 7:30 p.m. start. Career Concepts and Time Warner present a special live appearance of SpongeBob SquarePants and a select number of fans will receive a free gift courtesy of Career Concepts. Tickets for the game are on sale now at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Civic Center Box Office.
